Start with the test format
For Category B, the official test has 45 questions, allows 90 minutes and requires 38 correct answers. English, Norwegian and Arabic are among the available languages. Check the current details with Statens vegvesen before booking.
Use the official topic list as your checklist
Open the Category B topic list and turn its headings into a study checklist. It covers areas including traffic rules, signs, vehicle knowledge and risk. Read the full list rather than relying on a few familiar topics.

- Mark a topic as new, partly understood or ready for review.
- Choose one topic to focus on before you open a practice session.
- Keep room in your plan for topics you have not yet practised.
Build one repeatable practice routine
Choose a session length that fits your day. Ten or twenty minutes is a starting suggestion, not a requirement. The useful part is what you do with each answer.
- Read the whole question before looking for a familiar answer.
- For a picture question, identify the vehicles, signs and road markings before choosing.
- After answering, read the explanation even when you were correct.
- Describe the reason in your own words before moving on.
Give each mistake a reason
A score shows the result of a session. A short note can show what to work on next. When you miss a question, label the difficulty: an unfamiliar word, an overlooked detail, a rule you did not know or a rushed choice.
On DrivingNorway, use My mistakes and Favorites to return to questions. Try answering again before opening the explanation. If you still cannot explain your choice, leave the topic on your review list.
Keep a small driving vocabulary list
If a word slows you down, write it beside a short meaning or an example from your practice. You could keep entries for words such as vikeplikt, forkjørsvei and gangfelt. Use the app’s language switcher to compare the same question in English, Norwegian and Arabic.
Choose the language you are most comfortable understanding. When comparing translations, focus on the meaning of the whole situation rather than matching individual words.
Try this first-week plan
Use this as a flexible starting plan. Repeat a day or take longer when a topic needs more work.
| Session | Focus |
|---|---|
| 1 | Open the official topic list and note what is unfamiliar. |
| 2 | Practise one topic and explain each answer in your own words. |
| 3 | Review mistakes and make a short vocabulary list. |
| 4 | Choose another topic from your checklist. |
| 5 | Mix topics and notice where you still hesitate. |
| 6 | Return to difficult questions without opening the explanation first. |
| 7 | Review your notes and choose the next week’s priorities. |
Prepare the practical details, too
Apply for a driving licence and follow Statens vegvesen’s approval and appointment process. Bring valid identification to the test. Use the official Category B page to check what you need before attending.

- Check your appointment details and travel plans in advance.
- Review your own short notes instead of adding a large new topic at the last moment.
- Use practice scores to identify gaps in your understanding; a practice result is not an official pass result.
Make your next session specific
Choose one item from your checklist, answer a few questions and explain one correction in your own words. That gives your next practice session a clear purpose.
