Check the official language options

Category B is available in Norwegian, English and Modern Standard Arabic, among other languages. Statens vegvesen allows you to change language during the test.

Check the official page before making arrangements. The app offers English, Norwegian and Arabic for practice; this does not mean that every official language or assistance option is offered here.

Compare your understanding, not your speed alone

Try a few practice questions in your strongest language. Explain why your answer fits, then read the same question in another language you are considering. Ask whether you understand the whole situation equally well.

Notice where a change of language helps and where it adds uncertainty. If you already know a word but cannot explain the situation, switching languages may leave the underlying topic unresolved. Write down which difficulty you are addressing.

Build a small vocabulary list with context

Use a short list you can actually revisit. For each word, add a meaning and the question that helped you understand it. These terms also appear in the official Category B topic list.

  • Write the word when it causes a real difficulty.
  • Add a short example from your own study session.
  • Return to the example before looking up the meaning again.

Practise the whole sentence

After learning a word, put it back into the original question. Identify who is acting, what the task asks and any condition that changes the situation. A word list is useful when it makes the full sentence easier to understand.

On DrivingNorway, the language switcher lets you compare the same practice question. Read the explanation after answering, then try describing the situation without using the exact wording on screen.

Keep the list short enough to use

At the end of a session, select two or three words that deserve another look. Remove entries you can now explain through an example, and keep uncertain ones visible. A small, current list is easier to use than pages of copied definitions.

Before your next round, read one example aloud and explain its meaning in your own words. Then practise a different question on the same topic to check whether the understanding transfers.
